Chemistry Librarian

Bio

I've been at UCSD since January 2005. Prior to that, I was the biology and chemistry librarian at Georgia State University in Atlanta from June 2001-December 2004. Since 2002 I've also been the webmaster for the SLA Chemistry Division.

I started experimenting with blogs in 2000 when the first user-friendly options became available. In Fall 2002, I approached our Doug Goans, our web librarian, about using a blog to push news and information as a replacement/complement to e-mails and newsletters. We launched the first GSU blog in early 2003; Doug did all the amazing techie-developer stuff, I worked on the user side.

For the spring 2004 SLA Georgia Chapter meeting, we gave a presentation on blogs and RSS, which we had only recently discovered. The "test" blog I created for that event morphed into my professional development blog, renamed SDLibrarian when I moved here.

My current research interests focus on practical applications of web (2.0 and otherwise) technologies that support the work we do, with a particular emphasis on how those tools can support and promote chemical information literacy.
