Collaboration, Conferencing and Voice over IP using Microsoft’s Windows NetMeeting

With offices located around San Diego, California and the world, QUALCOMM Library & Information Services strives to be virtually everywhere, in fact it’s our tag line. A very important tool in making this possible comes packaged with the Windows operating system. NetMeeting allows QUALCOMM librarians to communicate with employees and each other and share applications. Whether in the next office or on the other side of the world, we can use NetMeeting to work on documents together while in different locations, train end users in using library resources and communicate while traveling or when a quick informal conversation is all that’s needed.

In this 25 minute presentation, I will outline how the QUALCOMM Library utilizes NetMeeting and give a demonstration of how this simple program is used including:

• Remote desktop training with end-users

• Sharing applications for better communication and collaboration in a distributed team environment

• Real-time end user assistance

Although the session’s main focus will be the exciting application features of using NetMeeting, technical details and tips will also be provided so that attendees can immediately begin to experiment with this new tool. These tips will include:

• How to find IP addresses

• How to call another person

• How to share applications

• How to talk using the Voice over IP capabilities

• Briefly discuss access issues

• How to end a call
